RAID Recovery

Each day, RAID Data Recovery Services Group receives several RAID recovery requests, each with one common characteristic – a RAID drive failure. Hard drives, by their very nature, are destined to fail at some point, and a RAID array failure at the mechanical level is our specialty. All is never lost when a RAID drive failure rears its ugly head, and recovering is sometimes easier than you think. There are a number of pitfalls that administrators requiring RAID recovery encounter, however, and those are must mentions.

How’s Your Backup?

One of the scariest things our RAID recovery technicians occur on a daily basis when speaking with customers is “Well, the RAID IS my backup!” While the redundant nature of the RAID system makes failure less likely, it does not completely preclude it. Hard drives are mechanical storage solutions (although we are beginning to see Solid State RAID arrays, albeit in very limited numbers), and as a result are very susceptible to mechanical failure.

Using things like portable USB hard drives, which are now phenomenally cheap, along with old school data storage tape, are superb backups that, when used once a week, mean incredible peace of mind. With good backups, RAID recovery is no longer a panic situation, but a minor operation.

Single Or Double RAID Drive Failure?

A key question we have for every potential RAID recovery customer is “Is it a single drive that has failed, or more than one?” In cases where a single drive failure has caused problems with a RAID array, although performance problems may exist, your RAID array probably remains fully intact.

The redundant nature of RAID systems ensures this. Where this can become problematic, however, is when an administrator begins to accept the single RAID drive failure as a minor problem, one not worth addressing. In the meantime, the single drives in the RAID array must work harder, putting far more stress on them. The result is often a double hard drive failure in your RAID system. This is never good.

A double mechanical hard drive failure is virtually unrecoverable by non-professional means. RAID systems are usually very recoverable at the user level when a single drive fails. Usually, that drive can simply be replaced with RAID recovery tools available on the market or included with your RAID array’s storage controller card. On the other hand, a double RAID hard drive failure is virtually unfixable using software. This is where a professional simply has to step in.

Experts Are A Phone Call Away.

RAID Data Recovery Services Group technicians are available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to serve your needs. When a catastrophic RAID array failure occurs, the tendency to panic and perform rash actions tends to grip even the most knowledgeable of IT administrators. Consider us a calming voice in times of peril. Our RAID recovery technicians can suggest a course of action to preserve your data, and get you on the path to full RAID data recovery. A call is always free, so consult with us now!
